No Excuses Series: Return Calls

For the past two weeks or so I have been consulting for someone in the entertainment industry, the field I have my roots in. I have a service that can be very helpful for the gaming industry that can actually shed new light on how research can revolutionize the way marketing is done. This blog however has nothing to do with the service I am providing it does however have to do with the lack of work ethic by the companies it can support and build. If I were to write a letter to the presidents of all of these companies they would be appalled by the lack of responsiveness by their company. If I had an employee that didn’t at least look into the proposal they would be admonished at least and probably let go.

Taking our product is a separate issue it may not work for all of them for one reason or another but at least get the information find out how the industry is changing and at least keep the contact on file for future reference. In the past five years or so I have seen an alarming trend of well, there is no other way to put it…laziness. People do not return phone calls in a timely manner it’s almost like they don’t want to give themselves more work.  Even when I am interviewing people for a new position and I send them an email to follow up on a certain date or time more times than not they are late by as much as hours or even a day or two. Do they expect me to hire them if they can keep an interview time?
It seems more like the exception then the rule now but if you return calls, show up on time, send immediate responses when people email or text you are ahead of the game. Although our economy as we have discussed is at all time low for our generation and jobs are at a premium it seems easier than ever to stand out by doing the most simple and obvious things.
